The Canon EOS M is Canon’s first mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, released in 2012. It features an 18 MP APS-C CMOS sensor paired with the DIGIC 5 image processor, delivering image quality comparable to Canon’s DSLR lineup of the time. It uses the EF-M lens mount, while maintaining full compatibility with EF and EF-S lenses via an optional Canon mount adapter.

The camera includes a 3.0" 1.04M-dot touchscreen LCD, with a minimalist control layout and a compact form factor. It supports Full HD 1080p video recording at 30/25/24 fps, and includes Hybrid CMOS AF, combining contrast and phase detection for improved focus performance (notably updated in later firmware).

An important aspect of the EOS M is its compatibility with the Magic Lantern custom firmware, which unlocks advanced features such as focus peaking, zebras, cropmarks, intervalometer, bitrate control, and enhanced audio monitoring—features typically found in higher-end video systems.
