The Nikon Nikkor 35mm f/2.8 AI-S is a manual focus wide-angle prime lens designed for Nikon F-mount cameras, offering a 35mm focal length on full-frame bodies and a 52.5mm equivalent field of view on APS-C (DX) sensors. It features a compact optical design with 5 elements in 5 groups, optimized for sharpness and minimal distortion. The f/2.8 maximum aperture provides a balance between low-light performance and depth of field control.

The manual focus ring is smooth and well-damped, making it precise for critical focusing. The lens has a 7-blade diaphragm for pleasing background blur and a minimum focusing distance of 0.3m (1 foot). The fully mechanical aperture ring allows for direct f-stop adjustments, making it compatible with classic Nikon film cameras and modern DSLRs (in manual or aperture-priority mode). Its all-metal construction ensures durability, while its compact and lightweight design makes it a practical choice for street, documentary, and general-purpose photography.
